About

Jen Hughes is an autistic writer, podcaster and spoken word performer from Ayrshire, Scotland. She’s been writing stories since she was given a spelling jotter. She started writing poetry at age 13. Her first works were published in 2016, not long after she set up her first website. She started performing her stories and poetry that year.

She has cohosted Words and Music @ MILK Cafe since January 2018. Find out more about her open mic night here. Her debut chapbook, Keep On Spinning won 3rd place in Dreich’s Chapbook Competiton in 2020 and was published that October. She contributed to Outlet Publishing’s Diary of a Young Writer blog from 2017-2022. You can find more of her posts on her Medium page.

She graduated with an MA English Literature and Film & TV Studies at University of Glasgow in December 2021. She became the second half of the Starter Quest podcast that October.  Find out more here.

When she's not writing, she's going to open mics, playing video games, making collages and building her hoard of semi-useless trinkets and quartz stones.

Check out some of her spoken word performances on YouTube!
