About

Jen Hughes is a fiction writer and poet from Ayrshire, Scotland. Throughout her years on this planet, her creativity has been an irresistible force and she has been chasing her muses since she could remember. She has been writing stories and world-building since she could hold a pencil and has been writing poetry since she was a young teenager.
Her first works were published in 2016, not long after she set up her first website and started performing her stories and poetry. Her space-themed debut poetry chapbook was published by Dreich Publishing in 2020.
She has contributed to Outlet Publishing’s Diary of a Young Writer blog from 2017-2022.
Jen started cohosting Words and Music with Gayle Smith in 2018 and hasn’t looked back since. Words and Music is a spoken word and music open mic night which has been going in the south side of Glasgow since 1990. They pride themselves in creating a community for people to express their creativity and have some fun along the way.
In 2021, Jen started the Starter Quest podcast with her boyfriend Alessandro Crolla. In each episode, Alessandro leads her through a curriculum of classic video games. After she’s played the game, she gives some analysis to see how it holds up to a new player.
She graduated with an MA English Literature and Film & TV Studies at University of Glasgow in 2021.
Please take some time to look through the stories and poems she has had published and check out her YouTube channel as this will have footage from both live and remote performances. She also has some of her portfolio published on her Instagram. (@jenhugheswriting)
